Recently I caught up with a very good friend and mentor of mine, a former Business Coach, who has retired from the world of coaching because of an incident that happened last year. My friend, Mr Eddie Gudopp, had a major cardiac arrest while delivering a business seminar to a group of assembled business owners. Eddie was resucitated by two members of the audience but his heart stopped again and when he was finally put onto a crash cart by the paramedics he had actually had the paddles 5 times and had stopped breathing for 12 minutes. Pretty rare for someone to still be with us after these types of moments. Is he a tough old bird?? Without question..And now that he is back in the land of the living he has just seen his first anniversary of that day.
As I mentioned , I caught up with Eddie and we chatted about business and life and second chances. I recorded it on tape and you can see the interviews here. Eddie and his wife Beverly have taken a huge leap of faith and have started working on a business that markets a product via the internet. (See the criteria we developed before he started his business in a later article 17th July) Now, remember that Eddie is 67 years old ( or young as the case may be) he relies on a pacemaker to keep his heart going and he is delving into an industry that is way, way outside his area of expertise. How can this be?? Well in my interview we talk a little bit about his whys and it all boils down to the systemised approach to finding your market and to get your message across. From what he was telling me the reason he is able to do this is because he doesnt find himself needing to be a computer expert.
Eddie tells me he has joined an organisation called CarbonCopyPro and is working with an Australian couple who already have acheived some sizable milestones with that group. Its a relationship that is maintained via Skype and email and the telephone. Which is the way that the internet allows business relationships to flourish. As I have said in previous articles, the internet gives you the option of being totally impersonal if you want to. But it is my humble opinion ( as it is with Eddie) that there is a move away from that impersonal approach and people want to know who is on the other end of the keyboard when they do things on the internet. (As it is with traditional business.) There is a human element that is starting to filter through because at the end of the day we all crave the comfort of knowing that we are dealing with real people and real products or services.
For the older generation like Eddie, they know what I am talking about. They grew up in a world where you always looked inthe eye of the person that they spent their money with. having a personal experience of someone is as important now as it was way back when our grandad was running his hardware store. And for businesses that are marketing themselves on the internet, its becoming so very imporatant to include a human element now in the transaction.
So an online business… is it for you?? Does your age make it impossible for you to get onto the biggest marketplace in human history. The evidence offerred by my discussion with my friend Eddie proves that you dont have to be a young twenty -something to make a serious business online work, you dont have to be technically gifted to make it all work. All that needs to happen is to find a well priced, proven and systemised business. It also offers you the chance to put some of your own values into the equation so that you already have a huge advantage over the competition.
