For a start any business needs customers. Well thats a no brainer really but you’d be surprised how many business owners dont seem to factor in the need to keep bringing new customers to your door. But what do you do.. go after new customers or look after the ones you have? Well, in my humble opinion I would probably put more effort into keeping the ones you already have simply because you have probably already spent money on getting them. In business terms it is a low aquisition cost…

Having said that, you obviously also need to be bringing fresh prospects through the door to replace the natural attrition from your database..
So whats your strategy for doing that…?? Advertise?,Market?,Referrals? Well, done properly all these methods will bring you in new business without a doubt. The question I always ask is whether the money being spent on bringing new prospects into your business is producing a profitable result for you. That is to say are you bringing in the right KIND of customer. Dont say “who are my customers”, say “who do I want as my customers”. Use that as your main lead creation strategy. Identify them and go after them.

Next, say you have the right kind of customers interested enough to take a look at you to do business with. Thats great right?? You have now moved to the Conversion stage. Now this stage is so important becuase its the stage where the money happens for the first time. Your prospects suddenly become your clients.
Or do they.?? If you get 100 people walking into your shop and you only sell something to 5 of them, thats very poor 5% conversion rate. If you have some testing in place you will know these numbers.
What could be going wrong? Your goal is 60-70% conversions right.. Either you are bringing in the wrong kind of customers or you are just a very poor salesman or your product simply sucks.. If your conversion rates are that low then you know where you need to focus. Better leads or better sales process.

If you are building an online business then your website needs to have a database capturing process. Everything you do online must be part of the lead generation strategy which then brings traffic to your nerve center

Over the weekend I happened to walk into a local business while out shopping. I was pleasantly surprised to hear a nice warm sounding voice coming across the shop, as the man behind the counter was talking with the patrons who were up in front of me. I wondered if I had suddenly walked onto the set of the twilight zone. Everyone was smiling as they all were watching a master at work. And what was he doing? He was communicating to his customers and giving them a great experience. This is the stuff of retail legend and something that sadly is lacking in many retail stores. But it was wonderful to watch and when my own turn came I realised that I was smiling even before I got to the counter as there was a mirror in behind this chap so I smiled even more as I anticipated what was to come. It was a great experience for sure.

How do you make your customers feel? 

Do you let them know they are worthwhile? Do you empower your staff to look after your most valuable asset?

It doesnt take to much effort to smile at them and make them feel like you really care. Its going to make them keep coming back and even better, they will relay their experience to people they know and that is where the real benefit comes into play. Your database will grow and your customer aquisition cost will reduce. And that goes straight to the bottom line. And believe me that is very healthy for your bank balance.

If you are the business owner it is so important to take just a little time to keep renewing your relationship with your customers.

As I walked away I remembered a little short film I had seen that shows the power of really caring about people. Its a manufactured situation but shows very well what a little bit of communication and a smile can do for your business. How can you teach someone to be a business owner?

One of the things that I notice is that with all the opportunity flying around on the internet, with all the “Business Opportunities” on offer, there doesnt seem to be much being said to “prospective networkers” about what they must do to prepare themselves “before” they enter the industry. What lifestyle changes they must make and what new disciplines  must they take on to make a real go of it..

And lets face it…, if you dont have the capacity to adopt a disciplined approach because its not in your character, then all the MLM “secrets” and the “trainings ” and “webinars” and “meetings” and “events” are really there for the people who are already in the system and not for the ones who are in the process of considering it…

If you look around at the Networking Industry and actually have a good hard logical look and not an emotionally charged look at it, all the positioning is being done to show the opportunity as being the selling point. Why is that.??   Obviously if it wasnt such a great opportunity then people wouldnt be attracted to it.

If you have spent money to get into it its unlikely that you are going to tell people that it is not a good opportunity..are you??? That would be the same thing as closing the doors on your business.

Would it??  Maybe not… depending on who you are saying it to..

Sorry But This Opportunity Is just Not For You….

How would it feel to be able to say that to a prospect and why would you say that to a prospect…?

Well here’s why… Because you have filtered them out and they just dont meet the criteria of people you are looking for…even before they sign the application.

Now this scenario is unheard of in 99% of Networking Opportunities because every bit of effort is spent getting people signed up and into the system just as fast as you can say “welcome to the team” but imagine how sustainable your business growth would be if you were bringing just the right kind of person into your business. Someone who knew how to run a business and he was passionate about running it. What amazing downline you would have.

What would a prospect need to have to be a perfect member of your team..?? Here’s 5 criteria for you to consider..

1.  A reason to go into business for themselves. Without an emotional driver a prospect will not be able to sustain the committment required to go the hard yards

2. A disciplined approach to goal setting. Take a look at how they run their lives. Are they already successful or do they lack the skills to be successful at anything..Its a hard call but how much time will you have to spend just helping them set goals and getting organised.

3. Are they Coachable enough to learn your system inside and out..Why the MLM industry is littered with failures is because it lacks networking professionals. People who know how to make it a career.

4. Do they spend time developing their mindset. Without personal growth there will be no business growth

5. Are they the kind of people you would like to go into business with or become friends with.

These are 5 items that I would suggest you consider when you are looking for downline for your business. Putting time into downline who just have not got what it takes can be the straw that broke the camels back. Your business would be far healthier if you said no more often than you said yes..

The 6th item for you to consider is how do you  prospect for these kind of people. The internet is becoming a huge ally of the modern day MLM’r but that still provides you with many prospects who should be filtered out unless they are serious enough to invest money in the process of looking for an opportunity.

The newest systems online are using strategies called GPT. That’s Get Paid Today. It means that a prospect pays money to be introduced to an opportunity. That makes him serious, it puts money in your pocket to continue the fight and it allows a systemised approach to building a business take over that is easy to duplicate.

This one is for all the business owners out there who work hard and burn the candle untill they get so tired, so weary that they slowly start to wear them selves down.

Keeping your brain in good shape is obviously very important for your health. You will flourish to the extent that you nourish and stimulate yourself on all levels – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

The following activities are just a few of those with the power to improve the strength, flexibility and balance of your brain.

You will notice that a lot of the points here are designed to challenge your brain. When the brain keeps doing the same things over and over, it loses some of its flexibility. Regularly challenging the brain by introducing new habits, new skills, new approaches and new interests take advantage of the brain’s amazing flexibility or what scientists now call “neuroplasticity” to keep itself in good shape.

Let’s look at some of these powerful ways to accomplish that:

1. Improve your stress management skills. Practice relaxation techniques (such as deep breathing, progressive relaxation, yoga, tai-chi), practice patience.

2. Make sure that you regularly get good, restorative sleep (typically 7-8 hours of mostly uninterrupted sleep).

3. Change some of your habits and daily routines. ( take a different route to work, occasionally use your non-dominant hand, visit new places, meet new people, cook different dishes).

4. Keep stimulating your mind: play chess, bridge, read books (fiction and non-fiction), do puzzles,

crosswords, write poetry, learn a new language.

5. Keep physically active: exercise, walk, bike, dance, play ball.

6. Feed your brain with fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, nuts, berries and seeds.

7. Learn new skills and hobbies. (take painting lessons, learn to play a musical instrument).

8. Meditate, pray, socialize.

9. Maintain a positive mental attitude despite your difficulties. Appreciate what you have as opposed to complain about what you don’t have, learn to let go and forgive,

10. Laugh a lot, have fun, be playful

Christmas and the new year period is a time to decide if you want to repeat the last 12 months or if you want to make a change and do something different. If I was going to recommend a book to read it would be ” Think and Grow Rich”  or a movie maybe it would be “The Secret”. Why? Well for me opening your mind to possibilities is what gives you the freedom to make a change. It really is up to you to do something different if you are not happy with what you are doing now. And what brings a thought into being  , well its action. Without action a thought is just a dream.. So good luck turning your dreams into actions. I’ve read the saying ” What you think, so shall you become” but I would like to add one small line to that great phrase and that is “and put into action”..
So “What you think and put into action, so shall you become”…

At the end of 2009 we were taking stock of the road we were travelling and very much looking forward to 2010.

 We are in the process of developing a web training business, (http://simonswebtraining.com) where we are  going to be offering the chance for business owners to take back the creation and running of their websites and teaching them how to weave a personal branding aspect into their sites.

The next level of that training is then to put that knowledge into practise developing income generation using the internet through marketing programmes and sites like CLICKBANK

I will always base my teaching on the 5 profit multipliers, because in any business you must make a profit in order to grow. And a healthy business is the best way to claim back some lifestyle and to bring into being the dreams you all had as entrepreneur’s.

A Quick History Lesson On the Origins of Business

I was chatting with a good friend of mine just this morning about the way that we do business in this era compared with the way he did business way back in the early 70’s and 80’s. How was that??? , well for a start a mans word was his bond and a handshake was as good as a sales order. When you did business with somone, you looked him in the eye and straight away you knew that that he was for real, honest and wasnt going to rip you off. As the world grew older and technology became more advanced and began to creep into every part of business, the face to face relationships started to become a thing of the past. Distance was no longer a challenge because the internet and email could see you communicating all around the world without once having to pick up the phone or actually communicate face to face..This Business to business communication has been done for a while now without anyone at either end knowing a whole lot about who was at the other end. This is when the term “internet scam” was coined and the world began to change. Now, Im a business coach and I work with bricks and mortar owners who get to see their customers face to face and if they are any good at what they do, develop long term relationships with them. How then do you bring those sort of values over to a market place as massive and as diverse as the internet? With Video.. thats how..

In the changes that are taking place inside my business I have come to realise that we once again have the chance to really get to know the people that we are doing business with and how the medium of the internet, rather than being a barrier to developing a long distance relationship,  is now in a position where it  can actually encourage it. I dont know what you sell, how many staff you have, what markets you operate in but I do know one thing and that is your customers do business with you because they feel comfortable that you have their best interests at heart. In short its about the relationship they have with you. Its all about you. On the internet its the same. If you can develop an online profile that people can relate to then your chances of succeeding are increased..

“Why use Video?…because you get a chance to get your message down to a one to one level and can personalise the experience of viewing it, so that the prospective customer can feel that you are talking directly to them.”

So how do you start.?

Well obviously you are going to need a video camera  to record your content. There are a number of models on the market and they all do similar things but some do it better than others.

I just bought a new Flip Video which gives me 60 minutes of High Definition video. The picture clarity is STUNNING but one drawback is the file sizes it creates. If your not used to dealing in such large video formats you will need to start developing good habits around management of those larger files.

Figure out what your message is going to be and then develop a script. (Especially if you have never spent much time in front of your camera in serious mode before.) Record the footage and then edit it using one of the applications that are out there on the market today. Go check out my resources page for some ideas   Upload it to either YouTube.com or Viddler.com and then drop the html into your sales page and then publish it to the web.

Take a look at the video I recorded below that talks about designing your Website to enhance the conversion stage of the sales process.. Which is where the money gets done hence ranks its importance in your process.If you havent got this stage going then you havent got a sustainable business.

Your web page is there to either help you create and grow a sales database or it is there to help you market to an exisiting database. And the only way it will work is if you are giving value.

Your video must give the viewer a great experience and allow them to trust you. It must be able to offer value. It doesnt need to look sharp and professional ( although it helps) but it must be honest and give a good insight into who you are as a person. In my bricks and mortar worl, people will do business with you because of who YOU are, I honestly believe it is the same online. In fact more so….
