Is Internet Marketing Only For The Younger Generation?

Well a few years ago you might have thought that to be successful with an Online Business you needed to be a 20-something who slept with his PC, his PDA and his ( or her) cellphone. And with the rapid change that was taking place, it really was the 20 somethings who were dictating to the rest of us in which direction Internet based opportunities were going.

I look at my mum and she is grappling with her new PC and with word and excel and email and because it isnt something that she is totally comfortable with just yet I am still getting calls from her to help fix one small thing or another which has confused her. But my mother is one determined lady and if its the one thing she will do she will “tame her damn PC”.. and the phone calls are getting less and less. Now my mother is now over 60 ( see mum I didnt let it slip) and she is one of the most creative minds I have ever been exposed to. She has inspired me to do a whole lot of things by being able to think outside the square and she was writing stories and producing stage shows way, way before the internet rolled around and started the phenomenon we all have embraced to one degree or another. So is someone of my mothers generation too old for the internet?? NO WAY!! The older generation might be a little slower on the uptake with some of these new concepts but once they cotton on to whats happening in front of them a huge database of experience reactivates and confidence levels rise and then there is no stopping them.

For instance, take my business partner Eddie Gudopp. (Please, take him- no just kidding Eddie ) He is now in his 67th year and despite having an episode 12 months ago where he dropped dead ( see earlier article) he has decided that he wanted to start an online business. I remember him ringing me and saying he wanted to get together and have a chat about something. I knew the serious note in his voice so as soon as I could get over to his place I made the trip. We discussed the idea at length and then started to do some research.After a week or so of looking around we found a business that met with our criteria. (Dont forget a business coach looks at life through different eyes so you might be interested in that criteria.)

A business needed to be:

Systemised-Without a good system it will fail
Duplicatable- Why reinvent the wheel with a system that is too complicated to teach to others
Sustainable- We didnt want it to run out of cashflow just as we got started and it needed to be able to deliver income for as long as we wanted it to
FUN this was an important one. If you dont enjoy yourself then do something else. Life is simply too short.

So we found a business that met with this criteria and roped my wife in and basically got started. The results have been pretty good so far and it is certainly on the rise. Is it easy? Nope Do we all work hard?? Yep… Are we enjoying ourselves…definately are we learning heaps..absolutely!!! I would recomend anyone reading this who is looking to start a Business from Home to definately do your homework and check it out. Even if its not for you it will start opening your eyes to the possibilities. And it no longer matters how old you are, the Internet has just as much oppportunity for the older generation as for the 20 somethings.
