Why Its Important Not To Forget The Human Element of Internet Marketing

Because I am a Bricks and Mortar guy who has now started to bring my values and my strategies to the internet it was inevitable that I would have to take a closer look into how business on the internet is being driven by the phenomenon of Social Media and in particular video.

Sites like Facebook , LinkedIn, twitter, Squidoo and any of the other sites that I havent had a chance to set up on yet, are providing an avenue for marketers worldwide to get a message out there in what I call a hard sell. The trouble is they are forgetting about a basic human need and that is to feel valued. And the danger of this being forgotten is that a potential market numbs to all the messages and promotional material because there is no human element behind it.

Take me for example, if you watch the intro video on my “about” page, one of my key values is relationships. Thats important to me and in my humble opinion its important to every other potential customer out there. Abraham Maslow showed the table of human needs in the shape of a Hierarchical Pyramid. We as humans need to feel valued, we do NOT like to be sold to..we like to buy.

Social media has provided an avenue for people to sell “stuff” but for goodness sake, why dont you take just a little time to allow people to get to know you first. So there is at least a small feeling of value going through with the pitch. The very first interaction, again in my humble opinion, doesnt need to be “hello my name is bla bla, and have you seen this wonderful new software which can make 50 trillion dollars in half an hour”. For goodness sake. I know that the internet is full of autoresponders and 24/7 automations that continually pump out sales messages so the marketer doesnt have to even interact with his customers but is that the way the world wants to do business …really??

If I am wrong, then please please someone get on their keyboards and tell me so.

There is a human element of Internet marketing that is being forgotten about and I am here to remind us all that Social media is there to share stories personalities triumphs sadness. In short humanity. Once the relationship is established then the business will follow.

Or is it a sign of the times that people no longer want relationships with their customers???

Now there’s a question worthy of a debate…and I welcome any comments on the topic. And how do you find me? Check out my links and you can drop me a wee message and I am very interested in getting to know a little about you. Seriously, I am. Otherwise I wouldnt be offerring total strangers access to my world and sharing pictures of my family. If you are open to sharing a little, think about where it might lead.. Will we do some business? thats possible too but not unless we have some mutual trust in each other born of knowing who each other is first…

To your success.
